To conclude our depression awareness series, December is an important time to refocus on those who are not feeling the holiday joy. Seasonal affective disorder (SAD) usually forms throughout the winter months due to the change of weather and the shorter amount of daylight. For various individuals, SAD symptoms typically diminish during the spring and summer seasons (NAMI).
"SAD is a type of depression," therefore symptoms are very similar or can look different in someone with SAD. - NAMI
'Winter pattern' SAD can include symptoms such as
Oversleeping
Overeating
Social Withdrawal
You should know..
SAD is not just the 'holiday blues'.
